Rob Rule Chairman
Rob is Managing Director of Techtran Group Limited (a subsidiary of IP Group PLC) which is responsible for commercialising and investing in technologies emerging from the University of Leeds. Rob joined IP Group from Liverpool Ventures Ltd, an investor in early-stage technology, where he was Business Director. Prior to that, Rob was Group Commercial Director of Micap plc and he also has extensive international blue-chip experience with ICI and DuPont. Rob has a first class degree in Chemical Physics from the University of Bristol, a PhD in Materials Structure from the University of Liverpool and a Business Masters degree from the University of Warwick.

Dave Hornby CEO
Combigen's Director, Dave Hornby, is Professor of protein and nucleic acid biochemistry in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Sheffield, where his research focuses primarily on structure function relationships in proteins which participate in a range of biological processes. Dave founded Combigen in 2004, latterly operating the company from its base at the Liverpool Business incubator, Merseybio. He is also the founder of two previous successful spin-out companies (Invector and Protealysis) and currently acts as consultant to a number of Biotech companies.

Mark Goodband Company Secretary
A chartered accountant with over 25 years' experience, Mark is Managing Partner in the Sheffield firm of Chartered Accountants and Specialist Business Advisers, Goodband Viner Taylor (gvt sic). He specialises in business start up and incorporation and as a partner in gvt for over 18 years he has extensive experience of a wide range of both manufacturing and service industries in the South Yorkshire region. Mark has played a signifiant role in the development of Combigen in its initial activities and is retained to advise on company administration.

Mike Fowler Non-Executive Director
Mike is Emeritus Professor of Biotechnology and Industrial Bioscience in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of Sheffield. It was here, in the early 1980s, that Mike founded one of the earliest UK university biotechnology spin out companies; Phytera Inc. (Worcester Mass. USA) a substantial multi-national company specialising in natural product drug discovery. He has since been involved in a number of other biopharma start up companies and latterly, has held the position of Senior Advisor in Biotechnology to the Office of the Managing Director, United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Vienna.

Walter Blackstock
With over 30 years experience in biological mass spectrometry, chiefly in the industrial sector. Walter is currently head of Proteomics and Biological Mass Spectrometry, and Principal Investigator in the Institute of Molecular & Cell Biology (IMCB) at the Biopolis in Singapore. Walter was a founding member of Cellzome UK and, also in the UK, has worked at Hewlett Packard and GlaxoWellcome where he founded the Cell Map Unit, an incubator project for the study of protein complexes using Tandem Affinity Purification and mass spectrometry, to better determine the value of proteomics to the pharmaceutical industry. Dennis Burton
Dennis is Professor of Immunology at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla near San Diego, where he heads a research team investigating the interaction of viruses with the human immune system. The team also has research interests in diseases caused by infectious protein particles or prions (which have been implicated in the development of CJD), as well as studying the interaction of antibodies with DNA. Dennis has been closely involved in the commercialisation of antibody technologies forming seveal spin-out companies and acting on the Scientific Advisory Boards of a number of Biotechnology start up companies in the USA and Europe. He was recently elected a member of the prestigious American Academy of Microbiology.

Clive Price
After spending much of his early research career in Europe, at the Biozentrum in Basel and the Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna, Clive returned to the UK in 1991 to take up the position of Senior Research Scientist at Quadrant Research Foundation, Cambridge. He then joined the academic staff in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at The University of Sheffield before moving to Lancaster where he currently holds the post of Director of the Biomedical Sciences Unit at Lancaster University. Clive has extensive experience in the the field of yeast genetics; his research at Lancaster is focused on the study of the genetics, biochemistry and cell biology of yeast cell cycle control and DNA repair.
